2019 is a big year for Hammonds Plains Community Centre! We’re celebrating 80 years since the construction of the school in 1939 and 50 years since converting to a community hall in 1969.

To help celebrate these milestones, we’re going to give away twelve free rental packages in 2019. Were you a student at Hammonds Plains School? A firefighter in Hammonds Plains? Did you meet your spouse at one of the dances? Had your wedding reception at the hall? Or perhaps you’d like to create some new memories by celebrating your own milestone in 2019? Tell us your story for a chance to win!
Contest Rules
- No purchase necessary.
- Twelve prizes will be awarded; one per month with an approximate maximum value of $400 each.
- Prize is the Rental Package and any Event Services offered by HPCC, up to $400 including HST. Damage Deposits are extra and charged at the standard rates.
- Contest Entry Form must be received at least 60 days prior to your event date.
- Rentals are subject to final approval by HPCC and availability of the facility.
- Rental date must be in the 2019 calendar year.
- Winners agree to provide HPCC with a photo of the winners and give permission to HPCC to share the photo and story on our website, social media pages and any other form of advertising.
- Contest is open for entries September 10, 2018 to September 30, 2019.
- The chances of winning will depend on the number of entries received.

1. Margaret & Nathan – Wedding
My fiancé and I met while ice skating and have been together every day since our first date. We bought our first home here in Hammonds Plains in 2017 and have since had our beautiful little boy. We are so happy to be raising our family in this community and having our wedding at the HPCC is icing on the cake!
2. Amanda – Grandmother’s Birthday Party
My grandparents have been proud members of the Hammonds Plains community for over 30 years. My parents bought a house here before I was born and my husband and I as well as my sister still all remain here. We are neighbours in Highland Park. We love the community and all the people we have grown to know! It would mean so much to my grandmother to have her 80th birthday party here and have room for all of her friends and family to attend. She also shares a birthday with my sister (my sister turning 28).
3. Gail – Birthday Party
I attended school in the building the first year the addition was added. My wedding reception was held there in 1971. I belonged to the Firemans Auxiliary. For many years we provided a Christmas dinner for seniors in the community including entertainment and treats. I’ll be celebrating my 70th next year, so what better place to have the celebration.
4. Anne – Daughter’s Bridal Shower
The event would be for my daughters bridal shower. She was engaged this May and plans to have her wedding in 2019. My daughter works full time and has a second job as a server. I would love to be able to surprise her and tell her that the venue is free.
5. Iona – Mom’s Birthday Party
I am planning a surprise birthday party for my Mom Dawn’s 50th birthday party. We have lived in hammonds plains for 20 years and have loved the community and been to many events at the community centre. My mom is a hard working loving person who never does anything for herself and I would love to finally give something back to her for her 50th birthday. Unfortunately, I am a struggling university student who would not be able to afford the cost of the rental fee. I would be so grateful if I could be one of the people who wins a free rental. Thank you for considering my story!
6. Daphne – Twins’ Birthday Party
My partner and I have been proud members of the Hammonds Plains community since 2009, when we moved to Highland Park. We have since had 3 children (6 year old twins and a 4 year old), who are proud to call Hammonds Plains their home. Our twins, Lucas and Nicholas, will celebrate their 7th birthday on August 13. Since they have a summer birthday, they never get to spend it with their school friends, so we thought it would be fun to plan a dance party to celebrate their birthday and have all of their school friends invited before school ends for the year – what better place to have it than the HPCC?!
